A triumph...
Lyneta Smith takes us along on her journey through childhood. Through sexual abuse and countless disappointments as well as neglect. Then at the end she comes out in triumph as she finds her way toward religion which helps her through it all and enriches her life for the better. This book was wonderful. Most people will say that this is a testament toward belief but, dare I say, I think this is more of a testament of a very strong and courageous person with a beautiful heart who ended up coming out on top of it overall. The trials that this poor girl had to face are just heart-wrenching. And Smith does not hold back details that will not only pull on your heartstrings but may indeed rip your heart right out. It's just such a beautiful story. Beautifully written. This book really hit home for me. As a victim of sexual abuse and neglect myself, I can definitely relate to the character not only in her trials but in her triumphs as well. And I may be using the word "triumph" the bit too much here but that definitely sums up this book. It is indeed the perfect word to describe the ending not only for the girl in the story who becomes the incredible woman but also for the reader who is walking along in the story with her. There were a couple times where I wanted to jump into the book and open a can of whoop-ass before taking the little girl's hand and leading her to safety. A book that can pull this kind of emotion out of me is definitely a good one. This book is definitely not for the faint of heart but you can never regret reading a book like this. Simply inspiring! Well done.

Too much for me...
Tipper is the daughter of a sculptor who disappeared some years ago. She has been left to deal with the estate of her family in his absence and has been forced to sell some of his works of art. But when her father returns she finds out that she's done something terrible and needs to undo it. She enlists the help of a few friends to go on a magical quest to undo what was done. I could not get into the story at all. I feel like the reader was simply dropped into this fantasy world that Paul has created (in another series apparently). However being a stand-alone book this should have indeed stood alone and not been a continuation of the series proceeding it. I also had a very big problem with the characters. Tipper is just about one of the most annoying characters I've ever read. She is consistently the victim although it does get better throughout the book. Not to mention the great wizard Fenworth who is a huge snob. I usually can do a good fantasy but this one was just too deep in for me and like I said having been a stand-alone book this should have reeled me in a little bit better but it failed to do so. Can't say I would really recommend this book. Perhaps I would recommend this as a part of the series but not standing alone. Very intriguing...
Theo is a psychotherapist obsessed with the patient that has been silent about the circumstances of the murder of her husband years earlier. Theo is determined to help Alicia deal with the truth of the circumstances and come face-to-face with reality. The prologue of this book is very curious. It leaves you with so many questions and wanting to read more. As does the rest of this book. It has a way of keeping your interest and keep you guessing. It is very well written in this way which is good for any thriller. The switching back and forth between the two main characters points of view and the time frames is so well-written that you don't really even know what you are reading until the very end when everything comes to light. The plot twist at the end is brilliant but if it does not come as a shock to you then I feel the entire book would be a huge letdown. However the way that this twist is written is so well executed that it would be difficult for most readers to figure out. You just become so enveloped in the story and you become so close to the situation that you are no longer able to see clearly what is happening. This is a sign of very good writing. The ending leaves so many questions unanswered and leaves the reader wanting more. With everything listed above I would have to say that this is one of the best thrillers I've ever read. Bravo Alex!!! 👏👏👏 I would definitely highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a good thriller or a whodunit novel. Written by Michelle Heron
My 4 Star Review Floor Time is book one in the Stewart Realty series by Liz Crowe. This first installment of the Stewart Realty series introduces us to Jack Gordon and Sara Thornton, both of who are realtors in the premier Stewart Realty Agency. Jack is the golden boy of Stewart Realty and Sara is a newer addition to their Stewart Realty family. Jack is charming but dominant, there’s no denying he’s a powerful, sexy man in a suit but he seems to change from sweet and charming to sharp tongued and a little self-absorbed at times. I personally felt he was this way because he’s a businessman and they seem to have a way about themselves. Sara is an independent and strong-willed woman who has been warned of Jack's legendary sexual games but can’t help herself, not many can when it comes to Jack’s good looks. I loved how Jack challenged her but understood her. I loved watching them push each other’s limits. This was a great start to a story of love, trust and commitment... I can’t wait to keep reading this series. Exceptional!
Yann is the future leader of his clan of mermen that inhabit the wild and untamed islands of the Moravanns. When he saves a young woman from drowning he thinks nothing more of it. Until she shows up on the island again months later. Now Yann has a very serious decision to make between the clan of his people and the woman he loves. What will win over the merman's choice? This was such a cute story! As predictable as it may be, I found myself reading very intently wanting to find out what happens next. I absolutely love all the British idioms used. As an American, this gives a sort of exotic flavor to the book. The sex scenes were more than sizzling and I'd like to say that this is my very first time coming across a sex scene that involved a condom. It was very refreshing and added a touch of realism to what I was reading. Sweet and touching ending. This is definitely a book that is worthy of Black Velvet Seductions publishing! Wonderful book! I highly recommend it! 🧜🏼♂️ Symbiotes go wild in this crazy power house of supervillains!
This. Was. Amazing. Some of the best artwork I've seen yet in comic books and graphic novels. I am a huge Carnage fan and to see Carnage as a woman for the first time really made me cheer for the bad guy! The storyline was a little complicated but still simplistic enough to where it made it fun. Loved the introduction of the new symbiote character. And I loved the twist in the plot at the end. All in all very well done. BRAVO!!! 👏👏👏 Amazing!
Connor O'Malley is visited one night by a monster disguised as a yew tree. The monster comes to him and makes him a bargain... he will continue to come to Connor and tell him three tales, the fourth will be Connor's to tell, and he will tell the monster his tale or else the monster will eat him alive! This book is so much more than what I've just summarized. The underlying story is absolutely heartbreaking. I am sitting here in tears as I write this. There are some books that are sad yes, but there are other books that hit you right in the heart... this is one of them. Beautifully and simplistically written. The storyline is damn near perfect. The main character Connor is relatable to anyone who has gone through such a tragedy. I'm sorry I'm really having a hard time writing this review because I'm crying so hard right now. 😭 This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. I can definitely see now why this book has won so many awards. It definitely lives up to all the hype. I have not seen the film yet but I will definitely have to now that I've read the book. Perhaps after the movie I will have another cry fest. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. But I would definitely recommend this to certain folks. Perhaps those who have gone through a battle with cancer either themselves or with a loved one. Be cautioned though, the ending will pull your heart right out 💔 Okay guys I really wanted to like this book. But here's my take on it...
the entire first half of the book is the novelization of the film. the second half of the book as to where the sequel is. I found the writing to be tedious in areas. I'm talking completely over descriptive where it is not necessary. And then in other parts she left out things like little jokes here and there that made the movie funny. I understand having to rewrite some things in order to set up for the sequel (because the film obviously did not) but I feel that all in all it could have been written better. The one thing that the author has going for her is that it is very obvious that she does care for the story and the characters and that is a nice touch. The one biggest issue that I have with the movie novelization and then switching to the sequel is the fact that the writer decided to choose to go from third-person in the first half to first-person in the second half. It is completely disorienting and it's almost like reading whiplash. I'm going to be honest here and let you guys know forthright that I did not finish this book. It was just too disappointing. I will probably keep this in my library to try to read at a later date but for right now it's a no-go. I honestly can't say that I would recommend this book and that makes me very very very sad. Most people that are going to be reading this book are big fans of the film and if you are a big fan of the film, unfortunately like most sequels, you will be disappointed here. Very well-researched.
A town in the grip of a witch craze, children gone missing or turn up dead, treasure, torture and forbidden love. This is Jakob Kusil's world where he looms over the town like a dark shadow as he plays the role of the hangman. Can Jakob and his trusted friend Simon solve the mystery and discover the perpetrator before all is lost? Okay first off, this book was beautifully written. even though it was written in another language originally it translates very beautifully to English. A lot of times when I read books that were originally written in a different language and then translated to English they come out very choppy. Not so with this book. I found the book astonishingly well-researched for the time period and especially the torture devices mentioned in the book. I also found it surprisingly and delightfully gory which I was not expecting at all. I got the Kindle version of this book and it is the first book that I've ever encountered that has the animation in it. I think that it was a nice touch because it helps you to envision the scenes a little bit better however the animation and illustrations themselves seemed a little juvenile especially for the content of the book. Perhaps if they would have made them more shadowy black and white figures instead of in color cartoonish characters it would have been more flattering to the story. There is a lot going on in this book. The storyline in the beginning is like a murder mystery but it does not read like one. Then towards the end you get to treasure hunting. There is just so much going on in this book and it's hard to keep track. I personally think that it is a good read and it does keep your interest however it also falls flat in places because there is so much going on. It's almost like the author couldn't decide where he wanted to go with the book. Because of these things perhaps the book was a little longer than it should have been. I have one last quirrel with this book and that is the title. Magdalena does not have a big enough part in this book in order to warrant the name of the book itself. I think that she should have gotten a bigger role in the story. this sets the reader up for disappointment because as you are reading you keep waiting and waiting for Magdalena to have a bigger role and unfortunately she never does. Perhaps she does in the series but that still doesn't warrant the first book to brandish her title. All in all it was a very good and enjoyable read. I really did enjoy it. And I would definitely recommend it to those looking for a good historical fiction. |
