Ugh this book pissed me off 😡
***SPOILERS AHEAD*** So the book revolves around this mother named Suzette and her daughter, Hanna. The book goes back and forth between the two perspectives. The child is sadistic (and even psychopathic) in nature and the whole theme that goes through the book is that she is trying to plan and carry out her mother's untimely demise. The third character is the father,Alex who throughout the main portion of the book is completely in denial about his child's behavioral issues. I have a serious issues with parents like this. There are several scenes in this book that just make me physically ill. Case and point, there is one scene where the child is sitting at the table eating lunch with her mother and is repeatedly spitting food into her mother's face. The mother does absolutely nothing to reprimand her child and continues to eat lunch. As the book progresses and the child's behavior becomes more and more severe, there is a scene where the child puts thumb tacks on the floor next to the mother's bed and once the mother has thumbtacks all over her feet the child comes bursting into the room with a hammer and her fists. But later the mother tells her husband not to be too mad at the daughter because the daughter is just simply having trouble expressing herself. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬????????? Continuously throughout the book the parents not only do not reprimand their daughter for her naughty behavior but they reward her for it as well. It got to the point where I started to think that the parents deserved whatever the child had concocted for them. 😂☠️☠️☠️😂 Being the mother of a young child myself, I simply cannot ascertain the thought of parents raising their child in such a manner and allowing their child to behave so disrespectfully and disgustingly towards people of authority. Especially her parents! Needless to say I found myself yelling at this book more than once. Despite being a well-written book, I find that I, along with many other people, would not be able to get past the issues that I have listed above. So this book gets a big ol nope nope nope from me! 👎😠👎

Delightful and sensual!
The second book in the series takes us on a new journey with new characters with tried-and-true characters from the first making their appearances. This time we set in Scotland in the 1500s. We follow the story of Jillian and Grimm as they find their path to love through old family secrets and a plot to destroy Grimm and his heritage. Just like the first this is very well written. The romance scenes are nice and hot and steamy. The build-up to the climax is great but the climax itself seems to be short and sweet. I found the interesting thing about this book is that just when you think the story should end it continues on and leads you to the next generation which I found to be quite lovely. Definitely a book I would recommend to anyone who likes a good romance novel. Creepy as fuck! 😱
Aaron Holbrook is returning home after 16 years of being gone. After his aunt died under curious circumstances when he was just a young teen, he up and disappeared leaving his hometown and his friends behind. But Aaron has demons. Some he will bring with him and some he will face inside the house that has stood vacant for nearly two decades. The question is, who will be the victor in this battle with demons of the past? Wow! This is my second Ania Ahlborn novel and I have to say... just wow! After having read The Shuddering and liked it so much I knew that I was in for a treat with this book but I had no idea how much. Ahlborn writes almost flawlessly as she weaves her web of chaos and darkness. Let me just say that I'm a pretty jaded person and it takes quite a bit to scare me. being a horror fanatic I have both seen read and heard quite a lot that scares the average Joe. I am able to look past and see what is in the woodwork of things that scare normal folk. This book was fantastic in the genre of horror. I can safely say that for the average reader this book would be terrifying! It had me looking twice in dark corners several times. Very awesome! I am pleased to say that, though this took me awhile to read because of my mental health issues, this is definitely a novel that I would recommend to anyone who likes a good scare! 👻 WARNING: Don't read this book in the dark! |
