Ugh this book pissed me off 😡
***SPOILERS AHEAD*** So the book revolves around this mother named Suzette and her daughter, Hanna. The book goes back and forth between the two perspectives. The child is sadistic (and even psychopathic) in nature and the whole theme that goes through the book is that she is trying to plan and carry out her mother's untimely demise. The third character is the father,Alex who throughout the main portion of the book is completely in denial about his child's behavioral issues. I have a serious issues with parents like this. There are several scenes in this book that just make me physically ill. Case and point, there is one scene where the child is sitting at the table eating lunch with her mother and is repeatedly spitting food into her mother's face. The mother does absolutely nothing to reprimand her child and continues to eat lunch. As the book progresses and the child's behavior becomes more and more severe, there is a scene where the child puts thumb tacks on the floor next to the mother's bed and once the mother has thumbtacks all over her feet the child comes bursting into the room with a hammer and her fists. But later the mother tells her husband not to be too mad at the daughter because the daughter is just simply having trouble expressing herself. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬????????? Continuously throughout the book the parents not only do not reprimand their daughter for her naughty behavior but they reward her for it as well. It got to the point where I started to think that the parents deserved whatever the child had concocted for them. 😂☠️☠️☠️😂 Being the mother of a young child myself, I simply cannot ascertain the thought of parents raising their child in such a manner and allowing their child to behave so disrespectfully and disgustingly towards people of authority. Especially her parents! Needless to say I found myself yelling at this book more than once. Despite being a well-written book, I find that I, along with many other people, would not be able to get past the issues that I have listed above. So this book gets a big ol nope nope nope from me! 👎😠👎

I read this book too. I actually lived in the same area as this author for a while which I thought was cool. I really liked the book a lot. I think I have the review on my website. If not it should be on NetGalley or GoodReads. Anyways, I too was frustrated with the girl who couldn't talk. How nobody could understand her. I do agree the father pissed me off big time not seeing there was anything wrong with the child. I remember wanted to get in the book and scream at him.
