Meh... Emma Jones is not your average teenager. She has a very special ability to see the future. But she doesn't just see the future she only sees what COULD be, instead of what actually will be. And when she meets the new boys at school things start shaking up for her real quick. The author writes well. I have no complaints about her writing style with the exception of the fact that she seems to repeat choice phrases over and over again throughout the book. the one thing that I really had an issue with what this book is the main character. And for me having a serious problem like this with the main character is a deal-breaker. The main character of this book, I know she's only a teenager but, she is annoying as all hell. She puts herself into situations due to her own stupidity, which is different from a lack of experience. She doesn't think things through, or think at all before she does things. And the one thing that I absolutely cannot stand above all the rest is the fact that she is being abused "but I love him..." BULLSHIT! I'm sorry but I just can't handle that kind of stupidity. The character that is supposed to be our hero is a complete, insecure weakling! Not good. I wanted so badly to get through the book and have it be like a coming-of-age and watch Emma grow up and make better decisions for herself. It is unfortunate that she never does either one. I did however like the storyline premise. I thought that it had a lot of potential however the execution was lacking. I'm going to stay again, if this were a true coming-of-age where we got to watch the main character grow up and blossom into a better person then this would be a much better book. I finished this book wishing that I had gotten more out of it than I did. I hope that the author does not take these criticisms to heart but instead uses them to build upon her books and make her characters stronger and more relatable in future novels. Many have liked this one and if you like paranormal romance you may like this novel as well but I cannot guarantee that due to all the problems I had with this book.

Good? Bad? I don't know 😲
"For Greg Owens, this was supposed to be a chance to end years of back pain and escape his reliance on pain pills. If it all worked out, he could maybe even get back the life he left behind as the pills took control. Instead, as the patients are cured of their physical pain, they encounter a different sort of pain building inside them – obsessive thoughts, depression, self-destruction. The side-effects grow worse, and the suspense ratchets tighter. The patients want answers and violent revenge, setting them on a collision course with a crazed doctor, determined to protect his life's obsession." can a book be both good and bad at the same time? Cause I'm on both sides of the fence with this book. I found the beginning very difficult to understand and to follow. but I found the premise of the book very intriguing. I found issues with the writing as in grammatical and spelling errors and yet the descriptive powers of the author when describing the physical torture that the characters put themselves through is unprecedented. Like it literally makes your skin crawl and makes you want to gag! I honestly just don't know what to make of this book. I'm so confused it is difficult for me to even write a review for it. I guess I wish the editing would have been done better. That would definitely have made it more readable for me because when I find grammatical, and especially spelling, errors it's like nails on a chalkboard for me. 😖 I also wish that the writing style was a little more intriguing like the story itself was intriguing. I found the writing style to be very dull and as I stated before difficult to read and understand what is going on. I wanted to like this book, and I did in some ways, but as with any book that I find editing errors with I cannot recommend it until the errors are fixed. Intense! Ryan and Jane are brother and sister and they want to have one last hurrah up in their father's cabin in the mountains of Colorado. Together with three friends they kick off their party very well. But little do they know that something is lurking deep in the dark woods. Creatures beyond imagining. Creatures with a thirst for blood and a taste for human flesh! This book was not scary per-say but it was very intense and thrilling. It was very well written and easy to follow the storyline in most parts. I had a little bit of trouble in the beginning but not much. The monsters are scary in such a way that the author leaves a lot to the imagination when she is describing these creatures. She definitely describes them and does it well, however I still don't have an exact print out in my head of what these monsters look like. Which to me is great because I love that the author left it up to us to decide what they truly look like. It makes for a scarier story. the characters are truly believable and the love triangle was perfectly written in such a way that you are wanting so badly for the book to end a specific way and I will not tell you whether it does or does not😉 Ania Ahlborn is obviously a very gifted writer. I must confess this was my first book read by this author and she did not disappoint. I look forward to reading more of her other books some of which I have sitting on my shelves. 😍 I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a good horror/thriller read. It was ok. The Ol' Blues are at it again. Armed with walkers and canes and a bit of high-tech to bring down the bad guy and save the day! As the book tagline states "The geezers have gone rogue." This was a very typical cops and robbers story with the senior citizens as a twist. The characters are very cliche however I feel that the author may have done this on purpose to give the reader the feeling of an old friend coming into play in the story. I don't really care for the author's writing style. it may have been the premise of the book as cops and robbers is not really my thing but I also really think that it's because she was indeed a police officer himself. And while I believe that anyone can write a book, I also know that it does take a particular amount of talent to write an interesting book. This one was definitely not fireworks but more of a light drizzle. The premise of the story does have great potential however. And if this were to become a series I feel that if the author were to work a little bit on his writing style and improving his skills that this would become a hit series! I did also find the book very funny. The anecdotes that were put in while not written in the best way come across as they are supposed to and are very humorous. I do praise the author for that. It is difficult for me to laugh at a book and I did at this one. So bravo Chris! 👏🏻 With all things in mind this book was an okay read so I am giving it an okay review. There is definitely room for improvement here. But that just means the book has more potential as does any sequels that may be in mind. Stoker is back y'all!!! Bram Stoker is transformed into a fictional character and beamed right into a novel of his own creation. Together with his brother and sister and a few others, they battle the ultimate force of darkness... Dracul. okay so first off I have done a lot of research on this book and the behind-the-scenes of the creation and writing of this book. Let me start off by assuring youthat Decre Stoker is in fact a real relative of Bram Stoker. He is his great-grand nephew. With that in mind let me also point out that together with his co-writer JD Barker, they got to view an original manuscript of the first edition of Dracula. That paired with the fact that Bram Stoker left a lot of notes behind and a lot of the original novel was cut out, is the essence of how this book came to be. This book is indeed written with intent on telling of the original 101 pages that were lost during the publication process of the novel Dracula. Stoker and Barker have become masters of interweaving not only their writing styles but fact along with fiction. The lines bleed together so well that you can hardly tell one from the other. To say that this book is very well written would be an understatement. Bravo to the authors as I can proudly tip my hat to this undoubtedly soon-to-be classic prequel to the original novel of Dracula. I really really enjoyed this book! so much so that I would like to reread the original novel and I would like to read Dracula's Guest as well as Decre's other novel Dracula the Undead, which is a sequel to the original novel. The original novel was so inspiring to generation upon generation and I feel that this novel is a perfect complement to it. Also I would like to say that in reading this book I definitely learned a lot about Bram Stoker and how and why he wrote the original novel that he did. a lot of what he wrote and indeed a lot of what is in this novel is true (or true folklore). In fact when Bram Stoker went to originally published his novel he wanted to have it published as non-fiction! 😳 He felt that Dracula and his legions of the undead were something evil that people needed to be warned about. And when you take into account all of the Irish folklore that he included and was inspired by in his tale, who can tell for sure? The Dark Prince might truley be out there... lurking in the shadows just beyond our reach. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a good horror novel, REAL vampires or is a fan of Dracula lore in any way. Um yeah....
A small group of guys get together for an expedition in the wild northern Arctic. They've already chosen a spot for their observations. The problem is, the spot happens to be haunted! So I got halfway through this book and realize that absolutely nothing has happened yet. I got tired of waiting for them to get to the punchline so I'm putting this book down. It was like nothing's happening.... nothing's happening.... ok he saw a shadow. And nothing's happening again. It seems like the book took way too long to set up the scene and the characters when it was completely unnecessary to do so. Like I said I was about halfway through the book when I decided to stop reading it. other people seem to have liked this book but it's just not for me so I'm not recommending it. Pretty damn good!
Esteban (Ethan) Gravesend has just inherited his grandfather's mansion home. but this home comes with more than just the usual ghouls and ghosts. This house is chocked full of family secrets and nightmares! Very well written, easy to follow with characters that are easily relatable. I do wish however that the book was a little bit longer and would have given the last chapter just a little bit more explaining. Other than that the book and the story we're darn near perfect. This book had me so engulfed and creeped out that everytime my phone went off I would jump. 😳 I like a good haunted house story but this one is definitely a good one. Douglas Clegg weaves a world of mystery and suspense so perfectly that the reader is consumed from the very beginning. And as for the ending I only had part of it figured out. The rest of it came as a surprise. That is an awesome thing for me to say because usually I have the whole thing figured out by the halfway point of the book. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a really good haunted house tale. Not one of his best for sure.
Jakabok, a demon, tells his tale of fantasy and fiction in the pages of this book that is not really a book at all but instead is his tale of woe. The narrator of the book is also the main character and he continuously breaks the reality of the book and tries to make it seem like the book is real to the reader. It comes off as rather annoying in the manner in which he does this. Plus it breaks from the story and in my opinion takes away from the story itself. It would have been more entertaining to read if not for that. I personally can't get past the first 50 pages of this book. The narrator is just too annoying in constantly telling you to burn the book. He stops so periodically that it makes you want to actually throw the book in the fire. Which may actually have been Clive Barker's intention. So kudos for that. But I just can't do it. This is not one of his best works in my opinion. I can't say that I'd really recommend this book but for someone who doesn't mind the narrating style it would be a fun read. A delightful classic!
Mole, Badger and Rat (Ratty) are friends of the infamous Toad of Toad Hall. While his friends live the simple country life, Toad lives the life of a millionaire Playboy. one day while taking his friends for a ride in his carriage an automobile spooks the horse and overturns the carriage. Toad then gets a wild hair that he must have an automobile at all costs. Can toads friends save him from his very self before it's too late? This is a great little story that helps tell children not just a tall tale filled with animals but helps them distinguish moral values and presents friendship from several different points of view. The characters are different but mesh so well that most anyone can identify with at least one of them. The story, although not long, is beautifully written in lush detail. Perfect for young readers who are just beginning to learn to read big books. The actual book story is a bit different from the Disney version of Mr. Toad, but they definitely have their similarities. If I remember correctly the underlying story is very much the same. I do think however, watching the Disney version would be a great compliment to the story after reading the book. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. He loved Rat the best as he was so kind-hearted and gentle and willing to take Mole under his wing in so many undertakings. This is a book I think every child should read at least once. And if you are an adult and have not read it I would highly recommend doing so. Hilarious gorefest!
A group of friends discover strange looking pods in a field that are sprouting pinkish-red tentacles. According to the botanist of the group, Autumn, they are called devil's fingers. Two of her friends make the mistake of touching the deadly fungus and the fungus starts to take hold of them. It grows on them... literally! Hahaha this book made me smile! It reminded me a lot of The Ruins. it's basically a group of kids that go where they're not supposed to be and do what they're not supposed to do and they end up getting in trouble for it. But that's the fun part right? It's always interesting to watch the characters turn on each other in the name of self-preservation. Hunter Shea has a way with gorey books most definitely. He writes them so they are almost fun to read instead of disgusting. I really enjoyed this book like I said it made me smile. but then again irony usually makes me smile and stories like these. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a quick gorey read. |
