This book is hot hot hot 🔥🔥🔥
Harmony is a survivor. She was taken in by River, the co-owner of a BDSM club, and these two find that they have a very real connection to each other. Harmony has a very jaded past however. But what she does not realize, is that River has a past of his own. This book starts you off hot and heavy and doesn't let you down until the end of the book when you turn the last page. It just sucks you in immediately! And this is so much more than just a BDSM book. The drama and action are extremely engaging and well worth a read. the romantic tug of war between the two main characters is nail biting and always leaves you wanting more. The sex scenes and BDSM portions are very well written and show the lifestyle in a more realistic light than other books do. (I won't name any names 😉) Also there is no detail that goes undescribed in the sex scenes which gives the reader a very clear picture of who's doing what and what's going on in the scene. These scenes can get EXTREMELY steamy!!! So be forewarned! I did find a few things that I didn't like about the book and the first and foremost is that I found a couple of minor editing errors. But that's an easy fix. The other is I wanted better world building. What exactly is Club Insanity? Where is it? What does it look like? What do the characters see around them in the world that they're moving around in? Some of these questions should have been answered right off the bat but were not. I feel like for someone who is reading a BDSM book for the first time and may be completely new to the lifestyle they may not know what a BDSM club looks like or what the purpose of it is. I felt while reading that a little bit more detail would have given this book a very lavish effect and would have made the book damn near perfect. However this is my only real qualm with the book. Everything put together this is a fantastic book, very well written, and definitely worth the read!!! I am definitely recommending this book!

Abalone lives on a famous glass sand island. Suffering from PTSD, she doesn't speak anymore because of a terrible accident that happened when she was younger that ended up taking the life of her mother. She now lives in a fairytale world that she has created for herself. But when she mixes a boy into the picture things become complicated.
Right off the bat I'm going to warn you that this is a very emotional book and it starts with the writing style. The writing is extremely poetic in nature and so are the descriptions. Stein immerses you into her world that she has created for her characters in such a style that it is hard not to be sucked in. The descriptions of the settings and the characters are phenomenal. Extremely well done. This is a book that is written from different points of view from different characters. However, the cast is not too big to where it's difficult to keep track of who is who and what is going on in the story line. This was very well done by the author. One thing that I had issues with was the going back and forth between past events and current ones which was a bit confusing at first because there is no warning as to when it happens. No fear however, this does not hinder the story it just takes some getting used to. The story reminds me of a darker version of Harold and the Purple Crayon. Abalone has created this fantasy world that she now lives in and she has made the world into something that is livable for herself. You feel that she would not be able to survive in this world if she had not have done this. Lastly I will tell you that this is a very sad story. Do not have any preconceived notions of fantasies always ending on a good note because they don't. This is one of those books that is a complete tear jerker and really hits you in the feels. Another very well done point for the author. With all things said and done, I would definitely recommend this one to anyone looking for a good tear-jerker with a bit of romance and fantasy on the side. A good steamy read...
So I was surprised to find that this is not one novel but is actually three novellas put into one book. All of them seem to follow the theme of military personnel with two stories being set in the Navy and one story being in the Marines. These stories were written very well but honestly there isn't much of a story outside of the bedroom. There is definitely a lot of detail there. However the first two stories really do pull you in and take you for a ride. For being novellas, they were written in such a way that they were able to tug on your heartstrings just enough to make you care about what happened to the characters. The characters also had a very good dynamic to them. They were very well fleshed out and the back stories were very nicely written throughout each story. This is something that is indeed rare to find in novellas. In my opinion however, the first two stories were far superior to the third. Maybe that's because I found the main character to be more than just a brat... nevertheless, I liked the first two stories better. My favorite story was Anchor Home as I am a total sucker for second chance romance. This really resonated with me because my husband and I are actually a second chance romance. So the story really hit home for me. This is one of those books that you curl up with and let it give you ideas for later 😉 I would definitely recommend this book to those who are looking for a nice, chilled out romance type book. Great storytelling...
Mallory is a magi and therefore shunned by most. She must keep her powers hidden from others. But when a boy is accused of theft by a mob of angry villagers, Mallory steps in in order to save the boy. This begins an epic quest that will ultimately save or doom Mallory. I personally loved the character Mallory. She was risking her life to help save this small band of complete strangers. That shows me not only her courage but her strength. The one thing that I had issues with with this book, was the world building. It seemed to be lacking detail in this respect. And my head, I had problems envisioning everything the author was seeing. I was also constantly asking myself is this an older-type world or a newer? It was difficult for me to even get a clear picture of what the characters were wearing. Perhaps this part of the book needs to be fleshed out a bit more. I do like the way the author describes the power coming from Mallory. I like how she describes it starting in her belly and tingling throughout the rest of her body and her eyes changing color. This added a whole nother level to the character Mallory and I really enjoyed it. All the characters were very dynamic and most of them were relatable. They were a little hard to keep track of that first because there are a lot of main characters, but eventually you catch on to who is who. The romance in the story was very cute and was completely unexpected. I feel that that was a nice addition to the story and a very wonderful surprise. And I very much liked the ending. A very good book throughout and one that I would be happy to recommend. Great read...
Zoe is back in this fun tale of mystery and suspense! Trying her hand at running her own business in the carnival is difficult but, when the rides start breaking down and falling apart, things start to heat up. And we're not just talkin summer heat! Can Zoe use her telepathic abilities to stop all this mayhem? R. L. Walker has done it again! A wonderfully mysterious book with great characters, a great setting and a great plot. I really love that the author is developing her character throughout these books. It's like watching a child grow and that is what a series should be. Walker definitely has this ability down pat. While the plot was a bit similar to the original book, The Disappearing Act, Walker definitely kicks it up a notch in this second installment. I can't wait to see how the stakes raise in the third installment. I have to say I also really liked the idea of deep-fried soda pop. I have heard of deep-fried Kool-Aid but never soda pop so this was very new and exciting to me. I would like to add that I did find a few editing errors in my copy but would like to also mention that I am reading the unedited ARC version. I am almost certain these errors have been fixed in the official published copy. All things put together, this is a great read and I would be happy to recommend it. Not very inclusive...
This book is a travel memoir that is supposed to explain the effects of death and dying throughout different cultures in the world. I'm going to be one of the odd men out here. I started to enjoy this book but the constant reminder that the author is of a Christian religion really makes you look at the practices of different cultures in the wrong light. Referring to some of these practices as "icky" and the like, is truly a medieval and indeed barbaric way to describe such things. Some of these instances irritated me and others downright pissed me off. I understand that the majority of her audience that is reading this book is from a Western culture, however you cannot be so uninclusive and so presumptuous as to think that some of the audience of this book is going to not be of the Christian religion. I mean, you simply cannot just write a book about death and dying and tilt it towards one singular religion and not piss a few people off. That's it, that's all I have to say on the matter. There are also a few inaccuracies that I caught in the book. I won't list them out, but I feel as if the book was researched enough to write a book but not researched to the point where it is correct. The author does a good job in describing her own musings but that is nearly the only thing that I like about this book. |
