Amazing!
Connor O'Malley is visited one night by a monster disguised as a yew tree. The monster comes to him and makes him a bargain... he will continue to come to Connor and tell him three tales, the fourth will be Connor's to tell, and he will tell the monster his tale or else the monster will eat him alive! This book is so much more than what I've just summarized. The underlying story is absolutely heartbreaking. I am sitting here in tears as I write this. There are some books that are sad yes, but there are other books that hit you right in the heart... this is one of them. Beautifully and simplistically written. The storyline is damn near perfect. The main character Connor is relatable to anyone who has gone through such a tragedy. I'm sorry I'm really having a hard time writing this review because I'm crying so hard right now. 😭 This book is definitely not for the faint of heart. I can definitely see now why this book has won so many awards. It definitely lives up to all the hype. I have not seen the film yet but I will definitely have to now that I've read the book. Perhaps after the movie I will have another cry fest. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. But I would definitely recommend this to certain folks. Perhaps those who have gone through a battle with cancer either themselves or with a loved one. Be cautioned though, the ending will pull your heart right out 💔
