A triumph...
Lyneta Smith takes us along on her journey through childhood. Through sexual abuse and countless disappointments as well as neglect. Then at the end she comes out in triumph as she finds her way toward religion which helps her through it all and enriches her life for the better. This book was wonderful. Most people will say that this is a testament toward belief but, dare I say, I think this is more of a testament of a very strong and courageous person with a beautiful heart who ended up coming out on top of it overall. The trials that this poor girl had to face are just heart-wrenching. And Smith does not hold back details that will not only pull on your heartstrings but may indeed rip your heart right out. It's just such a beautiful story. Beautifully written. This book really hit home for me. As a victim of sexual abuse and neglect myself, I can definitely relate to the character not only in her trials but in her triumphs as well. And I may be using the word "triumph" the bit too much here but that definitely sums up this book. It is indeed the perfect word to describe the ending not only for the girl in the story who becomes the incredible woman but also for the reader who is walking along in the story with her. There were a couple times where I wanted to jump into the book and open a can of whoop-ass before taking the little girl's hand and leading her to safety. A book that can pull this kind of emotion out of me is definitely a good one. This book is definitely not for the faint of heart but you can never regret reading a book like this. Simply inspiring! Well done.
