Heartbreakingly tender.
Our story begins with four siblings who go to visit an old woman who is said to be able to tell you the date of your death. After seeing the woman the children never truly forget her as they grow into young adults. And they certainly never forget the dates that she gave them. This book is all about family. it is about family bonds whether you live close to each other or whether you move far away from each other. It is about the strains that are put on the bonds throughout the years. And I find it rather funny that even though this book centralizes around the idea of each character's death, that there is so much life in this book. Perhaps instead this book should be named The Book of Lives. LOL 😋 The book takes place over several decades and is very reminiscent of each decade we visit as we watch the for children grow, become adults and eventually die. The book is written in a sequence starting with the first death and ending with the last so that you are introduced to each character through learning about the character before them. By the time you get to a specific character story you feel like you already know them. Get out your box of tissues guys! This book has quite a few heartbreaking scenes. 😭 Fantastic writing with great storytelling makes this a amazing book in my personal opinion. You follow along each character and are able to care enough about each character to mourn their passing. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a good solid yet dynamic story that is well told.
