Epic is right!!!
Zelie has never been able to do right by her brother or her father. Try as she may she always ends up screwing things up. But when soldiers come announcing higher and higher taxes Zelie is left with a desperate decision. She must go to market to trade for enough coin to pay the taxes lest she gets thrown in the stocks. But at the market she is approached by a young girl asking for help as she is pursued by royal soldiers. Zelie finds herself in another mess as she discovers this young girl is actually the princess. Wanted by her father and pursued by her brother the princess, Zelie Train embark on a daring quest to bring magic back to the people known as the Magi and to rise up against the tyrannical king who would have them all destroyed. Can Zelie and her comrades complete their quest? Or will the king's soldiers get to them first? Heart-wrenching sadness, disgusting indignation, epic journeying, victorious triumph... this book has them all. Very well written and very easy to follow, this story will both captivate you and crush you. Just great storytelling. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I thought that it was a very good balance between the devastating parts and the triumphant parts. Thereby making the book not too sad but not too happy as well. The characters were very well developed and very easy to relate to. This is one of those books where there's a character for everyone. The cliffhanger at the end definitely makes you want to read the next installment. Definitely a book for those who enjoy Tolken, Rowling and George R.R. Martin.
