Simply classic!
Delightfully written, this classic American folktale recounts the exploits of schoolmaster Ichabod Crane during his brief stay in the cozy little town of Sleepy Hollow. The town is wrought however, with ghost stories dangling upon the lips of its citizens and goblins lurking in every corner. Ichabod, the ever faithful disciple of the great Cotton Mather and hopeful victor in the battle for the Love of Katrina Van Tassel, is unamused by these folk legends and braves the odds in order to win the favor of his lovely lady. A little bit slow in the beginning. Washington Irving likes to paint the scene very vividly for his readers. He also tends to use a lot of anecdotes in his writing. But the older English style that it is written in is beautiful and adds to the subtle reminder that this is a classic of American literature. I loved this book. I can't believe it took me this long to read it but I'm glad I finally did. I highly recommend this book to EVERYONE!!! 😁

#1 "It will just kill you."
The old house that Amanda and Josh just moved into with their parents is not haunted... Or is it? Things get crazy in this ghostly tale of the ominous haunted house. As the first book in the series of the Goosebumps franchise, while not my favorite, I'd have to say it's still one of the great ones. #2 "Something's waiting in the dark...." Margaret and Casey continue to worry about their father and his strange experiments on Plants he's doing in the basement. They are just harmless experiments... Right? #3 "It's a monster blood drive!" Well visiting his aunt, Evan visits a toy store nearby and finds an old can of Monster Blood. It's fun to play with until his dog Trigger eat some of it! Evan is in for the surprise of his life when his dog begins to change and not in a good way. #4 "One picture is worth a thousand screams." An evil cursed camera? No that couldn't be real, right? Greg and his three friends are about to find out. #5 "What will wake the dead?" Gabe is stuck with his annoying cousin and his uncle in Egypt. His uncle is an archaeologist working on a new chamber inside the Great Pyramid. When Gabe and his cousin go exploring things they learn a terrible secret. But when Gabe gets lost inside the pyramid chambers, things take a dangerous turn. Is the curse of the Mummy real? Is Gabe being pursued by something supernatural? #6 "Now you see him. Now you don't" When Max and his friends find a strange antique mirror in the attic everything seems fun and games. But there's more to this mirror than meets the eye. It turns whoever stands in front of it invisible! Can Max figure out the mystery of the mirror before he disappears forever? These were definitely good for the first run of the series. The curse of the mummy's tomb was a little bit too Cloak and Dagger for me, but the rest of them were good. They had original ideas at least during the time they were written. Since I am going through the entire 62 Originals I'm only going to write a little bit of a review for six books at a time. That way I'm not writing 2 reviews every single day. |
