Definitely for the gamer crowd! 😄
"In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within the world's digital confines - puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them. But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win - and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape." Not for the non-gamer but ok for the laymen (like myself) to understand. The author uses phrases like: NPC, avatar, syntax error, PVP Zone and others that for someone who is not into the gaming or geek world would be very hard to get the gist of. Someone who doesn't understand terms like this would definitely not enjoy this book. The book is extremely well-thought-out. Each debacle seems to flow effortlessly into the next. I always respect authors who can give the ending away in the beginning of the book and still make the rest of the book interesting enough to follow. That is the case with this book. I personally loved all the 80s references. It made me feel like a kid again. Although it was a little too geek speak for me, I found the story to still be very enjoyable and the characters very believable. All things taken into account, I would have to say that I would definitely recommend this book to the right audience.

Wow! What a great story. The book begins with Eve as she's been in a horrible (self-inflicted) car accident. The book goes through the doctors and hospital staff attempting to save her. As this is going on, Eve is flashing back over the tragic events of her life. You feel for this poor girl who had to face the world unloved and unprotected. And we all know the sort of things that happen to little girls in those situations. But through all the tragedy that ultimately led her to the predicament she's now in, there is a light. Her son. She needs to live for her son.
When she awakes in the hospital she doesn't yet realize that she has even more trials before she can have the life she chose to come back from the grips of death for. She has to pick herself back up after falling again and again. However through it all, she perseveres in turning her life around and achieving the one thing that she sought after more that anything else... her son. This book was beautifully written. The format is very easily followed and the story is well-told for the reader to be able to follow the events. The characters are realistic and have great dynamic in and of themselves and with each other. This book is heartfelt and captivating. The story is entertaining and delightful. I would definitely recommend this book to just about anyone who reads fiction. A great little read, bravo! Love is fickle isn't it? Especially when you're in high school. Even more especially when you're dating the guy that all the girls have crushes on. That's how it is for Emme. She's dating Brendon, a congressman's son and the hottest guy in school. With having been hurt badly from a previous relationship is it possible for her relationship with Brendon to work even though it seems they come from different worlds? Or is the relationship doomed to crash upon the rocks? Perhaps their destiny is written in the stars.
This book was more than well written. It was captivating and showed great ingenuity. The storyline was exceedingly simple which may have been one of the best things about the book. The author is creative and shows a biting wit that even the most shallow person would crack a smirk about. This book was very entertaining all the way to the end. I found myself remembering how it was to be their age. Life was crazy and I found myself relating a lot to the main character. This was definitely a work well done. Bravo! I will be recommending this book. A great inspirational. A story about a man who gets incarcerated for a drug charge but released early for good behavior and ends up turning his life around one step at a time. This one started off like The Shawshank Redemption and ended up like Walk the Line. This poor guy man... I felt so sorry for him because it seemed like no matter what he did to better himself and get ahead he got knocked backwards again. Then again, no matter how many times he got knocked down (even in the face of suicide) he got right back up, gave death a great big "fuck you!" and went on with life.
This book was definitely written for the music lover. Specifically the rockers. The author gave a lovely homage to the greats by making lots of references. He even titled each chapter after a Metallica song which I thought was both fitting and humorous. The book itself was written very well. The author's writing style is very easy to follow and enjoy. He is very direct and to the point in his writing which is good for this type of story. Too much fluff would have taken away from the story. Though I did not cry, I found the overall story very uplifting and heartfelt. The author obviously put a lot of time and thought (not to mention heart) into this book. All-in-all a very well done book for a light, compelling read. "In a future where death is a thing of the past, how far would you go to solve your own murder?
Paul Donner is a NYPD detective with a drinking problem and a marriage on the rocks. Then he and his wife get dead--shot to death in a "random" crime. Fifty years later, Donner is back--revived courtesy of the Shift, a process whereby inanimate DNA is re-activated. This new "reborn" underclass is not only alive again, they're growing younger, destined for a second childhood. The freakish side-effect of a retroviral attack on New York, the Shift has turned the world upside down. Beneath the protective geodesic Blister, clocks run backwards, technology is hidden behind a noir facade, and you can see Elvis every night at Radio City Music Hall. In this unfamiliar retro-futurist world of maglev Studebakers and plasma tommy guns, Donner must search for those responsible for the destruction of his life. His quest for retribution leads him to the heart of the mystery surrounding the Shift's origin and up against those who would use it to control a terrified nation." Very well written. The story reads a lot less like stereo instructions which is good because it makes it easier for non technologically inclined readers to follow. The characters were very well put together and developed. The storyline was also very well developed. I enjoyed this book to a point. I thought that the concept was very much like the The Crow in the sense that a murdered husband comes back from the dead to avenge his murdered wife and himself. But the science behind it is very new age so it made for a nice mix. I would definitely recommend this book to anybody who enjoyed stories like The Crow as well as dystopian, sci-fi and cops and robbers. I gave it the first 50 pages. Before I even reach that mark I was so confused I couldn't understand what was going on in the story. There are too many elements that are separate from each other. Too many different story lines. The way his books are laid out is very confusing. It's extremely hard to follow his books.
This is Strike #3 for this author and I am done!!! 😠😩👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻😵🤪 A lovely tale!
From the Author: "Cam and Jake whispered their story to me while I was listening to Taylor Swift songs with my daughter while preparing to go to her concert. They would not leave my head and demanded to be written. It took me a long time to have the courage to put it out into the Amazon void, but I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy the songs that were the book's inspiration." In this coming of age tale the author takes us on a journey through the world as seen by Cami. She centers her story around her soul mate Jake. How they grew up together. How they lived. How they loved. How they lost. Beautifully written and told. This is one that will pull on your heart strings. Heart wrenching and provocative, you will read and cry through this book! I know I did. Incredibly spellbinding!
This is an epic coming-of-age set in fantasy. Jade has secret powers. She lives with her adopted parents Mona and Stephen locked away on a farm away from the city and other people. But when Stephen is mortally wounded and dies he tells Jade she must run away and be free at last from Mona who seeks to use her for her powers. As she teams up with a new partner (Blaise) she sets out on a quest to find her family & to learn her history. Can she find out the truth about herself and, most importantly, learn to use her powers? Or will the villagers burn her at the stake as a witch? Perfectly written, this story is very well told! The story and dialogue are easy to follow. The plot keeps you going till the end. Great beginning, great middle, great ending. Great book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy novels with a touch of romance. If you're looking for a seriously in-depth analysis on runes then this book is for you.
Thorsson goes over many different areas in this book. Everything from the different ages of runes including contemporary, historical magic and divination, runic codes and poetry, as well as cosmology, numerology, and psychology points. Thorsson gives us all this and more in this book. Though this book is a great plethora of information, I found the author's writing to be a bit of a downer and monotonous to read. He seems to just spit out facts and not really liven anything up in any sort of way. The book reads like a very straightforward textbook. I think I would only recommend this book to somebody who really wants to get down to the nitty-gritty of Rune lore and all the elements comprise thereof. For the runecaster who wants a really in-depth beginner book.
This book goes into extreme depths of the history, mythology, definitions, correlations, rites/rituals, and even how to make your own runes. The depth of detail in this book can be exciting for some but monotonous for others. I guess that would just depend on the reader. If you're wanting something more than just a fuzzy starter book then this is it. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who is looking to get into rune casting. |
