An interesting & unique approach to business. MD White takes us on a unique adventure through historical and world famous war strategy texts and teaches you how to take advantage of said strategies for both professional and personal uses. This interesting guide defines terms, lays down models and walks you through the strategies that can be found in such books as The Art of War. The things discussed in this book are very straightforward and analytical. Though technical in its content, any layman can follow these strategies. I can definitely see how the author of this book is a successful business man. when people nowadays think of business strategies they usually do not think of The Art of War. But this author has utilized this text for the modern world of business in a very creative and fantastic way. This is a rather short read but it is nonetheless jam-packed with information that could be pure gold for people in the business world. This is definitely a book to read over and over again. This is a great book I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's in business of any kind or anyone who wants to tailor these strategies to their personal life.

Wow! Powerful stuff!
Alex, a man who has lost more than just his given name is now in his senior years and is ready to speak out about his imprisonment in the Auschwitz concentration camp in Birkenau. He seeks the help of his good friend Yael and a judge rabbi to assist him in this endeavor. I am battling with this book. Part of me thinks that if the book was shorter it would be much easier to read. But another part of me knows that, due to the content of the book, it would not be easy to read in any format. In this book Alex and his fellow prisoner Masha describe in great detail the horrors that they witnessed in two different parts of Auschwitz and the horrible things they were made to do. This is not an easy read for anyone. Although written beautifully and simply in a play by play style that tells a definite story, the content is by far one of the most disturbing books I've ever read. And coming from a horror fanatic like me that is saying something. Alex does not hold anything back. His story is told in raw genuine form. Masha's story as well is told in a similar fashion through letters that she had written to Alex. This is a story that depicts humanity at its rock bottom, lowest point. WARNING: this book is not for the faint of heart or the week of stomach. With all these factors aside, this book is very well written and follows a definite storyline through Alex's horrific tale. From the very beginning Alex takes you along his journey into the past to seek redemption for his eternal soul as he seeks out the help of a judge rabbi and corresponds with him through email and tells his story. The book is a mixture of both Alex telling from the first person point of view and from the emails written back and forth. Yael also writes portions in first person point of view but her story, in my opinion, only ads a little bit of character to the underlining story itself. Her story is not really necessary to convey what the book is about. This book was a twisted relationship for me. I would set down the book crying and pick it back up again only to have my heart broken once more. I found myself forcing myself to read through this book and finish to the end. Even though I knew the ending, it didn't make the journey any easier. Please don't get me wrong, this is a wonderful piece of literature and a great book! This is one that I think everybody should read. But I know in my heart there are a lot of people who will not read it and know even more so that there are some who cannot read it. And while that is very sad, I know it to be true. Please read this book if you have not already. It is a piece of human history captured perfectly in one volume. I expected more. A collection of dark/horror stories in steampunk fashion. This collection is brought together for the first time in one volume. Okay I apologize for sounding like a dinosaur but I really don't know who this book is aimed at. Who exactly is the target audience? If it's adults then I have to say it failed miserably. However if it's pre teens and young adults, it's pretty good. I'm assuming that's where this book was supposed to be heading. Some of the stories are cute. None of them are really scary at all. Some were rather poorly written. Others were written well but lacked substance. It's always so hard to review a book with so many different authors because each author has their own writing style and their own pros and cons. All in all I'd have to say that I would recommend this book to pre teens and young adults but definitely not for adults and most definitely not for horror readers. Pretty darn good!
Saraid is the youngest princess of Thekla who must Journey to the far-off land of Mauburni to marry her betrothed Lord Commander. She is excited for the journey and has packed her most valuable possession... The Book which she has studied since adolescence on how to become the proper queen for her new husband. But the journey through the desert is long and throught with danger. Cadel is a warlord set on kidnapping the princess. When he does so, things start to get very complicated for Saraid and she must make a choice. Will she make the right choice for her new country and herself? I feel like the story has been told before in so many different cultures with so many different players. however with that fact in mind I also think that this story was very well written. The banter between Saraid and Cadel is both humorous and awesome. Not as sweet & fuzzy as a lifetime film but definitely along those lines. From the moment you start reading this book you dive into the world of this book which always makes for a really good story. The author writes in such a way that it pulls you right in from the very beginning and holds your attention until the end. I enjoyed reading this story even though I felt like I had heard it being told before. It is a great tale and you always wonder about the choice to be made at the end. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a quick and easy read in the romance department 💕 (Sigh) Another BOTM bust ☹️
Sarah and Eddie meet and instantly fall in love with each other. They spend seven perfect days together until Sarah has to go back to LA and Eddie has to go on holiday to Spain. When they part ways and he promises he will keep in contact but never does. Sarah becomes increasingly worried that something bad has happened to him. And she may be right... Okay first off, Rosie Walsh enough with the damn grass already! This author has a tendency to over dramatize the scenery to the point of annoyance. Seriously we've got it with the grass. The love story is melodramatic at best and with pointless side characters and their irrelevant additions to the main storyline this makes it for less than a good read. But it was the pretty cover and the promise of a good love story that drew me in. I really need to stop judging books by their covers. The twist at the end, though mildly surprising, was not unexpected at all. And Walsh's constant battle with other side characters storylines in the feeble attempt to twist you up even more as the reader fails even more dramatically then the love story itself. Now let's talk about the main character shall we? Sarah is newly divorced from a 17-year long marriage and is approaching her 40s as is Eddie. For a woman of her age to get wrapped up so quickly and obsessed so profoundly over a man that she only knew for a week is a bit more than far fetched. I mean, come on! It would be more believable for a 15 year old girl to be the main character of this book rather than the 30 odd something woman that Walsh chose to write in. Despite the fact that I side with her friends and would have told her myself to just forget about the guy and move on, her incessant whining and obsessive compulsive behavior over the situation makes her even more unrelatable and unlikable. I can't really say that I would recommend this one. Sad but true. It just has too many issues for me. Interesting story...
In this book our main character, a female named Jack, is telling the story of her life and how a horrible force became a part of it one night as it crept into her home. Will she ever be able to overcome this? or will it haunt her forever even as an adult? Okay I am torn with this book. I really want to love it because the story is so original. However I just can't get into the writing style. The narrative is written in first-person from Jack's point of view and it is basically her telling the story of her life. In a sense it is a coming-of-age novel with a horror setting. It jumps around from scene to scene and makes it so you're so scattered at times you don't even know where you are during the storyline. I also found Jack the main character is very unrelatable and unlikable even as she comes off as very annoying and whiny in her narrative. I give the author props for coming up with an original story. As a horror fan I am always glad to tip my hat to those who can come up with new and original ideas in my genre. I just thoroughly feel that I would have enjoyed this book a lot more had it been written in a third-person perspective instead of first-person like she's telling a story to someone sitting in front of her. a play-by-play sort of narrative would have been a better way to approach this story in my honest opinion. I can't say that I would really recommend this book, perhaps for the originality of the story but not much more. Such a cute book! SupaCon!!!! Three friends travel from Melbourne, Australia to an L A comic convention. In the three days of adventure through the convention, all three of them find love in the most unforeseen places. 💘 This book is so adorable! Although it only spans the time of 3 days, it is perfectly written and keeps you flipping through the pages from beginning to end. The characters are not just a little relatable. I think most people would be able to see themselves in these characters. The author gives us a great look at three young people who live in today's society of never-ending social media surrounding the world of fandemonium. The book is written from two perspectives: one in the spotlight and one in the shadows. Both are brilliantly written! The fandom movie, book and comic references are a perfect addition for anyone who lives in the geek world. I found myself naming off the references right along with the characters in the book! I enjoyed this book so much. I found myself feeling for the characters as well as relating to them. I found myself cheering them on and carrying on with them through their triumphs. This book was just so great and light-hearted and intriguing and funny. The perfect addition to any fangirl's library! I recommend this book to anyone and everyone! I especially would recommend this book to my fellow fangirls! Power to the fans ladies! We are all queens of geek! Still awesome! These books are filled with short stories written down by the great Alvin Schwartz. These stories are comprised of myths, folklore and urban legends from all over the world. But beware dear reader, these stories may be too scary for you! 😱 Wonderfully written sets of little tales of horror. These stories were a beloved part of my childhood. I can still remember my friends and I staying up late at night sitting in a circle with a flashlight and these books and taking turns reading our favorite stories to each other. As we did our best to freak each other out so these stories remain ingrained in my memory. They bring back fond memories and are still delightful to read even as an adult. Stephen Gammell's horrifying illustrations still give me the creeps even as an adult. They are without a doubt the stuff that nightmares are made of. I look forward to seeing what Guillermo del Toro can do to bring these horrorifying images to life on the big screen! As any true lover of horror will tell you, these books are a must to add to your collection. And if you haven't already read them, then you definitely should! Just remember to tell these scary stories... in the dark. 👻 Had high hopes. "1990. The teen detectives once known as the Blyton Summer Detective Club (of Blyton Hills, a small mining town in the Zoinx River Valley in Oregon) are all grown up and haven't seen each other since their fateful, final case in 1977. Andy, the tomboy, is twenty-five and on the run, wanted in at least two states. Kerri, one-time kid genius and budding biologist, is bartending in New York, working on a serious drinking problem. At least she's got Tim, an excitable Weimaraner descended from the original canine member of the team. Nate, the horror nerd, has spent the last thirteen years in and out of mental health institutions, and currently resides in an asylum in Arhkam, Massachusetts. The only friend he still sees is Peter, the handsome jock turned movie star. The problem is, Peter's been dead for years. The time has come to uncover the source of their nightmares and return to where it all began in 1977. This time, it better not be a man in a mask. The real monsters are waiting." Ugh this book was SO slow! 😩 The writing style of this book was fine but other than that I feel that the plot was very poorly executed for the potential that it had in being a Scooby-Doo rip off. Let's all just call it what it really is here... The nostalgia was great, the homages were funny, all in all the book was mildly entertaining. I also feel that this book was far too long for the story that it had to tell which could have been why it seemed like it was dragging so much. I just felt like I never got to the point of the darn book. The cover is beautiful but unfortunately in my case was very misleading as I did not enjoy the book as much as I thought that I would have. Perhaps I had too high of hopes for this book. Or maybe I've just outgrown Scooby-Doo. I would recommend this book for the nostalgia purposes but that's just about it. Amazing read! My Life at Rose Red is a coming-of-age novel framed in horror. It is a diary written by fictional character Ellen Rimbauer and recounts her exploits in life, in love gone wrong, and most importantly, her life at Rose Red the house that was built for her by her husband John Rimbauer. A house that is taken on a life of its own. And indeed other's lives along with it! This story grips you from start to finish. Although it is completely fictional, the book is written in the form of a diary and is that time so real that you can sit and ask yourself whether these events truly took place or not. After first reading this book I found myself on the internet researching the history of the novel and even what the story was based off of. It is such a well thought-out story and yet so simple you could definitely see it happening in real life. I enjoyed this book so much that it is now one of my all-time favorite books. The fact that it is a prequel to a great horror film (by Stephen King) makes it even better in my opinion. You get to read the diary (book) and then watch the film to see how things truly end. And unfortunately both the book and the film have utterly tragic endings but in the string of things it's all perfect for the genre that it falls under. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who like strong female characters and horror novels. |
